Democracies

A miniseries looking at Latin America

Democracy is a key institution within the United States, but democracies are in full retreat worldwide. Democratic backsliding has occurred in Latin America—more centralization of power within Asian states. Civil war, protests, and coups have torn apart Africa. Russian soft power and populism have destabilized European democracies.

 

In this miniseries, Joseph Zhong and Joshua Morganstein explore the democratic institutions of Latin America and propose steps to rectify democratic backsliding in Latin America.
